Fashion Police Never Misses

{3 February 2007}   Dainty Paisley

paisleyWhen I joined the retail industry, I didn’t have much knowledge on fabrics and patterns. I loved to dress up and style others, that’s it. Nothing more. It was like a crash course on everything from silhouettes to cuts. I have always been drawn to prints and one of my favorites is the Paisley pattern.

The paisley has tear-dropped shaped prints which are reminiscent of vegetables and flowers. It originated from Persian and Indian cultures. The print is usually bright in color with a lot of intricate details especially around the teardrops. The name Paisley comes from the Scottish town with the same name that became famous in the 19th century for producing shawls with the pattern. The fabric with paisley patters are usually made into dresses, scarves, shoals and even neckties. The pattern became famous in 1968 when The Beatles went to India and came back popularizing the pychedelic look. Paisleys are very fashionable especially during summer because of the bold colors.
